The Venomous Voice

A crispy, sharp, cautious voice.

Around the corner I hear a soft husk.

It shrieks for something, I make a choice.

Around the bend I see dusk.

A stream of warm colours flow from the mighty sun.

A new day has finally begun,

A new day I should enjoy.

I feel the flickering heat of a flame

scratching at my skin.

I feel the sting of a venomous voice,

a constant crashing drain.

A venomous voice is not a random scene.

It makes you careful, you might even scream.

It stings and bites, it puts on a show,

seeping poison deep into your blood.

Can you hear it dancing?

It dances in the wind.

It dances in your throat.

It dances everywhere,

wanting you to devote

some time and energy to its relentless cause.

It fills your lungs by intoxicating the air.

People exhale venomous voices all day.

A child may even spit it out as they play.

The venomous voice is a drop of emotion

directed at someone else.

As it flies out of your mouth,

it goes out to devour.

Venomous voices are harmful indeed.

They can break a person faster than a knife slicing air.

They’ll grow fast like an unwanted weed.

Be careful and just heed

every word, for one day indeed

it could keep you out of trouble,

so heed my words should you need them.

For the venom comes from all of us.

The venom is a web of dislike and distrust.

This is why it cannot be killed nor trapped,

unless we all have heart attacks.

So stay vigilant, stern, but have some sweetness,

as that is the venom’s only weakness.
