A Letter to Who I’ll Become - Samiah

Dear Samiah 5 years from now,
Have we graduated with a powerful degree?
Have we landed a well paying job?
Have we moved to our own apartment?
As I ask these questions I must tell myself to slow down and imagine how I’d feel if I did not achieve what I've wished for.
Would there be a sense of disappointment? Shock? Acceptance? Maybe. But I do hope that when I look back and reflect on the past 5 years, I see growth. No matter how big or small, a single change in my lifestyle is what I’d like to see.
Life was never meant to be measured by a list of achievements. There will always be goal after goal to chase. Instead, we should celebrate what we have overcome, and appreciate the battle fought along the way.
So, future me, I hope you feel a sense of accomplishment when you compare the now to the past. It’s not about answering the questions I initially asked, but taking a step to pause and reflect on the achievements.
